As part of its CSR strategy, Banque Libano-Française (BLF) is committed to help preserving the environment.
Aiming at meeting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set by the United Nations, such as clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, the Bank and the United Nations Development Programme in Lebanon (UNDP) offered USD 40,000 to the winners of the last annual Earth MasterCard competition, bringing the total amount granted to green projects to USD 200,000 over the past five years.
The 2016 three winning projects, selected by a jury comprised of both BLF and UNDP representatives, had one common objective: helping the local community to face the garbage crisis offering sustainable and instructive solutions.
- Recycling of organic waste through vermicomposting in Arab Salim” by “Baladna” and “Nidaa el Ard” plans to reduce the costs of waste management and improve the quality of life for local inhabitants by using natural solutions such as composting and natural fertilization.
- “ABC3Drecycling” by“Collège Elysée Hazmieh” offers totransform plastic waste into plastic filaments for 3D printers to be used in daily school activities.
- “SORTED Outsmart Your Garbage”, a mobile application by “Little Push”, aims to increase general awareness about sorting garbagevia an interactive game.
The financing of the projects was made possible through the revenues generated by BLF Earth MasterCard Credit Card, the first green card in Lebanon launched in 2011, under the supervision and implementation of UNDP – Lebanon.
